
No. 3 Florida Set for Competitive Battle on the Bayou at LSU Invitational May 2

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 3 Gator track and field squads will head down the final stretch of the outdoor campaign towards the championship season with the LSU Invitational May 2 in Baton Rouge before prepping for the Magnolia State and Starkville, Miss., for the 2015 SEC Outdoor Championships May 14-16.
Florida will enter Saturday's one-day invitational at Bernie Moore Stadium to show down with some of the best in the SEC from host LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss, while the Orange and Blue will additionally square off with competition from Sunshine State foe Miami.
Action kicks off for the Gators at 10:30 a.m. with defending national champion Fawn Miller and transfer Kike Oniwinde in the javelin throw. Running events get started with the 4x1 relays at 1:30 p.m., as the Orange and Blue will continue aiming for lower marks for the NCAA East Preliminary at the end of the month.
THE GATORS HEADING INTO THE LSU INVITATIONAL
The Florida track and field teams, both ranked No. 3 in this week's USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings, put a punctuation mark on their final home-meet of the season last Friday, as the Tom Jones Memorial honored former longtime University of Florida women's track and field coach, Tom Jones, who passed away on March 21, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. UF captured eight Tom Jones event wins, including three field events highlighted by senior Taylor Burke's PR in the high jump (1.85m/6-0.75), a new school record. Florida additionally had several key marks and performances, including the top-mark in the NCAA and world thus far, and the third-fastest mark in UF history, from the women's 4x400 relay team of junior Robin Reynolds, sophomore Kyra Jefferson, freshman Destiny Washington and junior Claudia Francis (3:28.08). Junior Najee Glass went 44.79 to win the men's 400m with the second-fastest time in the country and junior Eric Futch broke 50 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles with a 49.45, also the second-fastest in the NCAA so far this year. Overall, UF had 22 personal-best marks at James G. Pressly Stadium for the Tom Jones Memorial.
In addition to the Gators' stellar home finale, the Orange and Blue went 3-for-3 at the Penn Relays, as Fawn Miller (52.71m/172-11), Ciarra Brewer (13.21m/44-0) and Marquis Dendy (16.57m/54-4.5) won the javelin and both triple jump titles, respectively, in Philadelphia, Dendy with a new outdoor PR in his outdoor TJ debut.
