Track & Field Gators Take on Starkville for SEC Outdoor Championships
Wednesday, May 13, 2015 | Track and Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The No. 3/4 Florida track and field teams descend upon Starkville looking to make history this weekend at the Mike Sanders Track and Field Complex. While the Gators own nine SEC outdoor championships combined, UF's men are aiming for their first outdoor crown since 2010; the women last won SEC outdoors in 2009.
While team championships are always a goal, the Gators have the potential to turn in a number of special performances in Starkville, starting with three-time defending triple jump champion Ciarra Brewer. Brewer will look to cap off her senior season with her fourth straight outdoor triple jump title to become the first ever to accomplish the feat. Senior defending SEC and NCAA javelin champion Fawn Miller joins Brewer as a defending champ on the women's side. In men's action, seniors Stipe Zunic and Marquis Dendy both return shooting to defend their titles, Zunic in the shot put and Dendy in the triple jump. Zunic, who has a SEC crown in the javelin from 2012, won the shot put last year in 2014 and will add discus -- in addition to shot put -- to his lineup this season.

The Gators boast the top mark in the league in six events entering the conference championships, including NCAA leading 4x4 relays on both sides.
A wealth of new faces and a deep squad will make for a fun SEC Outdoors for the Orange and Blue crew. Take sophomore transfer Eric Futch, the SEC leader in the 400-meter hurdles, SEC Indoor Champions Najee Glass (400), Kyra Jefferson (200) and Ryan Schnulle (800) all ready to hit the track in Starkville. Then there's senior distance guru Mark Parrish and freshman two-time indoor All-American jumper KeAndre Bates. Florida's men won the 2015 SEC Indoor title and were the NCAA runner-up. The Florida women were the SEC runner-up indoors and finished fourth at NCAA Indoors just two months ago.
