GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Monserez clan is keeping Florida volleyball in the family. Allie Monserez will join the Gator volleyball program for the 2015 season, announced by UF head coach Mary Wise Friday.
Monserez will head to Gainesville after spending her freshman season in 2014 at the University of South Carolina. Southeastern Conference transfer rules require the new Gator setter to sit the upcoming campaign.
“We are thrilled Allie has joined the Gator family,” Wise remarked. “Although she will not be eligible to play until next year, her contributions in practice alone will be a great help to our team. Her talents both on and off the court will be a terrific addition to Gator Volleyball.”
The younger sister of Florida departing senior Maddy Monserez, Allie played 92 sets her freshman campaign at South Carolina, averaging 4.87 assists per set as a key cog in the Gamecocks' operation. The 5-9 Bishop Moore product notched five double-doubles last year, including double-dip matches against both Arkansas and Tennessee in Southeastern Conference play. She additionally delivered 11 service aces (0.12/s) and averaged 1.80 digs per set her debut season.
Monserez has a career high 43 assists from the Sept. 13 match-up with North Florida and twice had multiple service aces in a match -- three against Furman and two against fellow Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee. At the net, Monserez had 11 blocks, including a career-high five against Furman Sept. 6.
Florida gets the 2015 campaign under way August 29 at JMU. Gator volleyball season tickets, Gold & Platinum Cards are on sale now.
