
Gators Continue to Shine at World at National Championships

University of Florida sophomore Caeleb Dressel was once again dominant at the Phillips 66 National Championships in San Antonio as he sprinted to his second national title on Sunday night in the 100-meter freestyle. Dressel, a product of Green Cove Springs, Florida, touched out with a time of 48.78 to edge second-place Jack Conger by .27 seconds for the win.
In addition to Dressel's night, former Gator Eduardo Solache-Gomez and sophomore Mark Szaranek each stood out in the 200-meter IM. Solache-Gomez finished fifth in the preliminary session (2:01.14) and Szaranek was close behind in 11th (2:02.22). The duo repeated in the finals, Solache-Gomez finishing fifth in the 'A' final with a time of 1:59.81; Szaranek was once again close behind in 11th (2:01.34).
At the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Ryan Lochte closed the week on a high-note, swimming to his third World Championship title inside Kazan Arena. Lochte, who swam as a member of Team USA's 4x100-meter mixed freestyle relay team, opened the preliminary session and helped lead Team USA to a top-time of 3:31.06. The five-time American Olympic gold medalist did not participate in the finals, but Team USA went on to win gold after clocking in at 3:29.93.
Former Gator Dan Wallace also had a strong showing in the 400-meter IM prelims, swimming to a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:13.07. Wallace would finish sixth overall after touching out with a time of 4:13.77 in the finals.
