Gators Set for Pinch A Penny All Florida Invite
Thursday, September 17, 2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Florida men's and women's swimming and diving team is scheduled to open the 2015-16 season this weekend at the Pinch A Penny All Florida Invitational. The three-day event is slated to begin Friday morning at 10 a.m. inside the Stephen O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida, and conclude Sunday afternoon following the 4 p.m. finals session.
HEAD COACH GREGG TROY'S TAKE ON THE ALL FLORIDA INVITE
“It's always great to start a season. Anytime you're a Gator and you're starting the season it's a tremendous opportunity. We've got a lot of freshmen on both the men's and the women's side so there's a lot of excitement and anticipation.
“It's also a special year being an Olympic year. We always have multiple athletes who have international aspirations. It's kind of been a tradition to the program -- we've got a wall filled with pictures of all our swimmers who have been to the Olympics. It makes this year exciting and unique.
“With that being said, we have a great group of athletes coming off a tremendous summer and a good mixture of experienced athletes in addition to a new group of young ones. When you put all of that together we get a chance to swim and have a dynamic that's a little close to a preseason meet. There's good talent but it's mostly in-state teams -- some that we don't see very often.
“It's early in the season but it gives us a great dynamic to see everyone swim multiple events outside of a dual meet.”
