Florida hosts the Vols at noon in the Lemerand in the Gators' breast cancer awareness match.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- No. 5 Florida will start the month of October at home with its breast cancer awareness 'pink' match against the Tennessee Volunteers Sunday in Lemerand Athletic Center in a second straight nationally televised match on SEC Network.
First serve between the Gators and Vols is slated for noon on the SEC Network with Sam Gore and Missy Whittemore. Gators' play-by-play Tom Collett and color analyst Josh Crow will have the call on the ESPN Gainesville airwaves Sunday afternoon. Gator fans are encouraged to wear BLUE or PINK.
Both the Gators and Vols will be looking to rebound Sunday in Gainesville after falling short in mid-week clashes in Wednesday SEC volleyball action. UF (12-2, 2-1 SEC) suffered its second loss this season, first in conference play, at the hands of Kentucky in the Lem, while UT (10-5, 1-2 SEC) lost a five-set thriller at South Carolina in mid-week action.
PROMOTIONS: Breast Cancer Awareness Match; First 250 fans in attendance will receive Florida Volleyball slippers; Rowdy Reptile Check-In: All students can check in on the Rowdy Reptile mobile app to earn points towards great prizes! For the month of October, the University Athletic Association is partnering with Field and Fork Pantry to gather goods at all home volleyball and soccer matches. UF is 417-46 (.901) all-time in SEC play, including a 391-24 mark the past 25 seasons under Mary Wise. The Orange and Blue have won five straight over Tennessee entering Sunday.
Despite the setback against the Wildcats Wednesday, the Gators boast the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week in Caroline 'CK' Knop and Freshman of the Week in Rachael Kramer. Florida hit .372 last weekend and put up a stellar block with 3.57 per set to open conference play before stumbling against Kentucky at home. Senior Alex Holston put down a team best 4.14 kills per set and 4.79 points per set during SEC opening weekend and followed by putting down 15 of UF's 30 kills against Kentucky and scoring a team-best 15.5 points in the match.
Kramer, who has started Florida's last eight matches, has skyrocketed to the top of the SEC overall (.556) standings hitting efficiency, with Alhassan second (.410), since a breakout performance at No. 13 Florida State Sept. 14. The 6-8 middle has just eight errors in 99 swings this season and posted a career best .727 clip in the sweep of Alabama Sunday. At the net, Kramer and company are helping Knop patrol the back row with quality touches. The Gators' junior libero from Pasadena had a staggering 31 digs against Ole Miss Friday in Florida's SEC opener on the way to her 6.00 digs per set last weekend. Knop ranks second in the SEC through the first weekend of league play in digs per set (5.10) and has 10 double-digit dig efforts on the season so far
FLORIDA NATIONALLY ENTERING TENNESSEE
Florida's offense ranks No. 1 in the nation in hitting efficiency entering the Tennessee match up (.338) Sunday in Gainesville. The Gators check in at No. 15 in blocks per set (2.87) and No. 17 in assists per set (13.34), paced by redshirt sophomore Allie Monserez's 12.21 dishes per set, tops in the NCAA. UF's 14.15 kills per set rank 24th in the NCAA entering Sunday's match. Florida has held its opponents to a .163 clip this season, 39th in the country. The Gators have now held 10 of 14 opponents under a .200 clip, have put together five double-digit block efforts in the last seven matches and seven double-digit block matches so far this season. Led by Knop's ball control and elite back-row play, Florida has had one reception error or less in seven matches this season, including three perfect receiving matches (Michigan State, Jacksonville, Alabama).
