BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida sprinter Ryan Clark was named the Southeastern Conference Track and Field Men's Freshman of the Week, the league office announced in a release Tuesday (Feb. 16) afternoon.
At last weekend's (Feb. 12-13) Tyson Invitational, Clark clocked impressive times of 6.64 in the 60 meters and 20.93 in the 200 meters, both of which are the fastest among all NCAA Division I freshmen this year. They're also top-10 times on the NCAA Indoor Descending Order List. His 6.64 in the 60 meters ranks No. 9 on the program's all-time indoor top 10 as well.
Moreover, the College Park, Ga. native is only the fourth NCAA Division I true freshman since 2000 to break 6.65 seconds in the 60 meters and 20.94 seconds in the 200 meters.
The only other three to accomplish the feat are: former Florida State Seminoles Trentavis Friday (2015) and Walter Dix (2005), and former Tennessee Volunteer Justin Gatlin (2001).
Clark and the Gators, now ranked No. 10 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's National Team Rankings, are gearing up for the SEC Indoor Championships. The two-day event will be held at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. on Feb. 26-27. Continue to check FloridaGators.com for television broadcast information.
