Doe-Doe is Gators greatest transfer of them all
HARRY FODDER
CHARTING THE GATORS
Some awfully productive transfers have come through the Florida basketball complex the last two decades, but Dorian Finney-Smith will leave the program as the most accomplished of them all. Tuesday night's date against Kentucky will be the swan-song O'Connell Center game for Finney-Smith, the 6-foot-8 forward who came to UF following his 2011-12 freshman season at Virginia Tech and last month became the first transfer in school history to hit the 1,000-point milestone. At 1,121 points, he currently sits 42nd on the all-time UF scoring list. "It's going to be fun and it's going to be sad," said Finney-Smith (a.k.a. "Doe-Doe" to everybody) of his home court farewell. "It's going to be my last time playing in the O'Dome, so just try to enjoy, try to cherish every moment." After being named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Freshman Team in 2012, Finney-Smith transferred to UF, sat out the '12-13 season and emerged in '13-14 as the Gators' best reserve, eventually being named Southeastern Conference Sixth Man of the Year. He's started nearly every game the last two seasons. To appreciate Finney-Smith's contributions to the Gators, here's where he stands, based on points, versus the other transfers over the last two decades. Note: Obvously, Finney-Smith's numbers will rise. He needs just 13 points to pass both Al Horford (1,123) and Joakim Noah (1,133) on the all-time list.
