Florida Men Take Seventh, Jefferson Highlights Women’s Closing Day at NCAA Indoor Championships
Saturday, March 12, 2016 | Track and Field
The Gators saw the third-longest streak of top-three finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships history snapped
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Florida men's and women's track and field teams finished seventh and tied for 14th, respectively, at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Senior sprinter Kyra Jefferson was a bright spot on an otherwise gloomy day for the Gators. The Detroit, Mich. native took runner-up honors in the 200 meters and seventh place in the 400 meters, totaling 10 points in the events. It is just the ninth time in NCAA Indoor Championships history an athlete totaled double-digit points in those events.
The seventh-place finish marks the first time since 2008 the Gators finished outside the top three of the men's competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The program's streak of seven consecutive top-three finishes was the third-longest in Division I history. The women finished outside the top 10 for just the second time since 2012.
A highlight-based replay of the meet will be broadcast at 7 p.m. ET Sunday (March 13) on ESPN2.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
On his overall assessment of the weekend…
"It was an incredibly disappointing weekend, almost to the point of embarrassment. It's one of those things where I'd love to tell you what happened. I have no clue. At the end of the day, bottoming out with everybody, I'm the head coach, that's my responsibility. I've got to figure out what's wrong.
"All I can say is that we will be better outdoors. We have to be. We are a much better team than we showed. On the men's side we got a little dinged up in places, but we still had to step up and do better. I'm just very, very disappointed."
