ORLANDO, Fla. -- It was fitting that on the first day of spring, March 20, the University of Florida volleyball team kicked off its 2016 spring exhibition competition schedule in the Sunshine State at the Happiest Place on Earth. Florida kicked off spring competition at Disney's Wide World of Sports against UCF March 20.
After two weeks of spring practice under their belts, the Gators headed down to Orlando for their annual friendly with the University of Central Florida at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Sunday.
With nine returners and one early enrollee in 2016 freshman outside hitter Mia Sokolowski, the Gators and Knights clashed in HP Field House in a pre-determined five-setter.
The Gators won four of the five sets in the exhibition match against UCF, which took on a bit of a different look for Florida following the departure of five senior starters from the 2015 squad.
Rising junior defensive specialist Samantha Dubiel played the duration of the scrimmage at the libero position, while classmate Abby Detering was the Gators' setter for the entire match as well.
Highlights of the afternoon for the Gators included the debut of Sokolowski, as well as the production of 2015 AVCA All-Americans Rhamat Alhassan and Carli Snyder.
