
Day 2 at the NCAA Championships: What to Expect

13 Gators will compete across four individual events and two relays
ATLANTA -- The University of Florida men's swimming and diving teams will compete in Day Two competition at the 2016 NCAA Championships today. Thirteen Gators have qualified to compete across four individual events. In addition, the Blue and Orange will compete in the 200-Yard Freestyle, and 400-Yard Medley Relay events (lineups are TBD).

Who Qualifies to Compete Today:
Thirteen student-athletes have qualified to compete in Day 2 competition at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Though coaches and student-athletes may not elect to compete in select events, the following participants have met the NCAA's pre-established qualifying standards in the following races:
Diving Trials - 1 meter:
Sam Smith
- Owns a career-high 358.88 on the 1-Meter.
- Boasts three career wins off the 1-Meter.
- Dove a score of 315.10 and finished 10th at the 2016 SEC Championships.
200 Freestyle Relay:
Florida (TBD)
- UF won the 2016 SEC Championships with a time of 1:46.16.
- Current seed time stands as Florida's school record.
- UF finished 11th in the event a season ago (Dressel, Curby, C. Main, Werner, 1:17.21).
500 Free:
Mitch D'Arrigo
- Placed third at the 2016 SEC Championships (4:13.92).
- Finished 6th at the 2015 NCAA Championships (4:14.30).
- Career-best time (4:10.77) ranks second all-time at UF.
Arthur Frayler
- Finished 16th at the 2015 NCAA Championships (4:18.17).
- Clocked a time of 4:18.60 at the 2016 SEC Championships to finish sixth among the field.
- Ranks 10th all-time at UF, clocking a career-best time of 4:16.04.
Pawel Werner
- 2016 SEC Champion (4:13.31).
- Time from the SEC Championships ranks fourth all-time at UF.
- Boasts 19 total wins this season.
Austin Manganiello
- Placed 10th at the 2016 SEC Championships (4:19.10).
- Owns a career-best time of 4:17.94.
- 2016 would be his 500-Free NCAA debut.
Ben Lawless
- Placed 14th at the 2016 SEC Championships with a time of 4:22.82.
- Finished 41st at the 2015 NCAA Championships a season ago (4:21.58).
- Posted a career-best time of 4:21.09 earlier this season.
Blake Manganiello
- Swam a time of 4:23.09 at the 2016 SEC Championships to finish 20th overall.
- Owns a season-best time of 4:21.17.
- 2016 Would be his 500-Free debut.
200-Yard Individual Medley:
Jan Switkowski
- Ranks fourth nationally in the event, with a seed time of 1:42.55.
- Finished second at the 2016 SEC Championships (1:42.55).
- Boasts 21 wins this season.
Mark Szaranek
- Ranks fifth nationally, clocking a season-best time of 1:42.64.
- Ranks eighth all-time at UF in the event.
- Finished 11th in the event a season ago (1:43.27)
Brennan Balogh
- Clocked a season-best time of 1:45.65, which ranks 45th nationally.
- Makes his first NCAA appearance this week.
- 3-Time USA Swimming Scolastic All-American
Alex Lebed
- Ranks 48th nationally with a season-best time of 1:45.70.
- Makes his first NCAA appearance this week.
- 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200-Meter IM.
50-Yard Freestyle:
Caeleb Dressel
- Clocked an American, U.S. Open, and NCAA record at the 2016 SEC Championships (18.23).
- 2015 NCAA Champion in the event.
- Boasts 40 wins this season.
Corey Main
- Finished fifth at the 2016 SEC Championships, clocking a season-best 19.36.
- Placed 25th at the 2015 NCAA Championships (19.58).
- Owns a career-best time of 18.94.
400-Yard Medley Relay:
Florida
- Gators lead the nation with a top-seeded time of 3:03.86.
- Set the UF school record at the 2016 SEC Championships with a first-place time of 3:03.86.
- UF finished sevent in the event a season ago, clocking a time of 3:05.71.
