Friday, March 25, 2016 | Gymnastics
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Five Gator gymnasts claimed a national-high total of 14 honors on the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC) Regular-Season All-America list. This is the fourth year the NACGC has recognized regular-season All-Americans.
All-Americans are determined by their final regional qualifying score (RQS) standings in the Road to Nationals rankings entering NCAA Regional competition. The top eight gymnasts on each event and the all-around receive first-team honors and gymnasts Nos. 9-16 receive second-team honors with all ties included.
The five Gators earning spots on the 2016 NACGC All-America list include senior Bridget Sloan, who is the nation's only gymnast to earn All-America honors for each of the five events. She is a first-team selection for all-around, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Sloan earned All-America second-team honor for vault.
Sophomores Kennedy Baker (all-around, vault, floor) and Alex McMurtry (vault, bars, beam) each earned three first-team honors. Freshman Alicia Boren picked up All-America second-team honors for all-around and vault. Senior Bridgette Caquatto is an All-America second-team selection for the uneven bars.
All-America status can also be earned at the NCAA Championships with a top-four (first team) or No. 5-8 (second team) session finish.
Up Next:
The Gators compete Saturday, April 2 in NCAA Regional competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The top two teams from each of the six national region sites advance to the 35th edition of the NCAA Gymnastics Championships, set for April 15-16 in the Fort Work Convention Center Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
