ATLANTA -- University of Florida senior diver, Kahlia Warner, punched her ticket to the 2016 NCAA Championships on Monday afternoon, diving to a first-place finish in the women's 1-Meter springboard competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships. Today's competition marked Day One of the three-day event for both the Gator men and women.
Warner, who just two weeks ago swept the one and 3-Meter springboards at the SEC Championships, put the Gators on the board early with a strong showing in the preliminary session, diving to a top-finishing score of 321.05. The Queensland, Australia, native bested her score later in the finals session, posting a six-dive mark of 336.05. Her 12-dive total (657.10) bested runner-up Olivia Ball of Georgia (619.10) and third-place Rachel Mumma of North Carolina State (597.60).
In addition to Warner's top finish, seniors Emily Mosher and Delaney Dye also competed in the 1-Meter event, finishing just outside the finals cutoff. Mosher posted a prelims score of 253.20 to finish 20th overall while Dye followed in place at 21st with a score of 252.45.
On the men's side, senior Zach Hernandez led the way in the 3-Meter event with a Top-18 and finals-qualifying finish. Hernandez posted Florida's top score (334.05) in the prelims which ranked 16th among the early field. Later in the finals, the Johns Creek, Georgia, native posted a six-dive mark of 321.60. His combined 12-dive total (654.65) was good for a 14th-place overall finish.
Freshman Sam Smith and redshirt sophomore Dalton Goss also competed in the men's 3-Meter event. Smith had a promising start while remaining a constant atop the leaderboard through his first four dives. His fifth and sixth proved to be costly after a slight miss on the fifth, and a caught heel on the sixth dive spoiled his set. Smith finished 21st overall (334.05) while Goss followed behind in 34th (263.45).
Florida Head Diving Coach Dale Schultz on the Day:
"We saw some good things out of the men and women today. It was a long day at the pool but they competed well. Kahlia Warner had an extraordinary day and dove incredibly well, I'm really happy she was able to come away with a win. We saw some good things out of Emily [Mosher] and Delaney [Dye] but unfortunately they didn't make the cut.
"On the men's side, Zach Hernandez had a really good day and an exceptional preliminary session. Unfortunately, he finished a few spots out of the NCAA qualifying spots but I was really happy to see him go out on a high note with this being his last 3-Meter competition. In addition, we liked what we saw out of Sam [Smith] but he missed two dives at the end of his set and it costed him a few places."
"We're going to get some rest and regroup and we'll be back tomorrow ready to compete again. We're looking forward to a lot of good competition off the women's 3-Meter and the men's 1-Meter boards tomorrow."
Senior Kahlia Warner on her 1-Meter Performance:
"I'm really happy with how I competed today. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. My goal for this meet was to qualify on the first day so there would be less pressure over the next two days and it gives me some added confidence going into NCAAs."
Warner at the 2015 NCAA Championships:
Warner competed in her first-career NCAA meet and earned her first-career All-American honor on day one of the 2015 NCAA Championships. She placed sixth in the one-meter finals, diving to a score of 321.75. With that, Warner became UF's first diver since 2011 to earn an All-American honor and its second-ever female to earn the accolade on the one-meter board. Monica Dodson was the Gators' last All-American diver and Megan Neyer (1982-86) was the last to accomplish the feat on the one-meter.
Warner at the 2016 SEC Championships:
Senior Kahlia Warner was named the 2016 SEC Female Diver of the 2016 SEC Championships. The Queensland, Australia, native, dove to first-place finishes on the one and 3-Meter springboards -- where she achieved school records on both boards. Warner now joins former Gator Great, Megan Neyer (1982-1986), as the only two divers to post wins on each board at the conference meet in the same season.
Who's competing at the 2016 NCAA Championships:
On March 2, the NCAA announced Nine Florida Swimmers Have Qualified for the 2016 NCAA Championships in addition to four relay events. Those nine swimmers will be joined by at least Senior Kahlia Warner, with possible additions as the NCAA Zone Diving Meet continues throughout the week.

Tape delayed coverage of the championships will be broadcast on ESPNU at 7 p.m. Eastern, March 29 for the women's championships All sessions not streamed by ESPN will be streamed live on the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships microsite.
