Gators Seek Strong Regular-Season Finale in Nashville
Friday, April 1, 2016 | Men's Golf
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 7 University of Florida men's golf team will look to build momentum entering postseason when it wraps up its regular season at the Mason Rudolph Championship this weekend.
Coming off a 15th-place finish at the Valspar Collegiate in Palm, City, Fla., the Gators will launch their comeback campaign when they tee off at the Vanderbilt Legends Club Saturday morning. The field features 14 teams, and UF is one of three ranked in Golfweek's top 10.
Freshman Sam Horsfield will sit atop the Florida lineup once again. He's turned in six top-five performances this year, including two individual titles this spring. Freshman Jorge Garcia, who owns six top-25 finishes, will play in the No. 2 spot.
Sophomore Alejandro Tosti will rejoin the Orange and Blue lineup in the third spot. He closed the fall season with a win at the FGCU Classic and opened the spring season with a runner-up performance at the Sea Best Invitational. Also rejoining the Gator squad on the road is junior Ryan Orr, who has been a consistent contributor for Florida, especially during a stretch in which he recorded five consecutive top-20 finishes.
Playing the No. 5 position, freshman Gordon Neale is appearing in his first team lineup since September. He suffered a broken wrist in October and recovered in time to tie for 19th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in February.
The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. C.T. on Saturday.
Head Coach JC Deacon
On the Mason Rudolph Championship:
"I'm probably the most excited I've been for a tournament all year. I want to see how they're going to react to come back from where we were and what we've been through. I thought the preparation has been great. The guys are ready to go. We're going to play against some good teams, and it's exactly what we need before SECs."
