UF logged 11 top-20 NCAA Division I times and marks on Friday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Even amid rainy conditions, the University of Florida track and field program took advantage of its final home meet of the season, logging 11 top-20 NCAA Division I times and marks at Friday's (April 22) Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.
The Gators also had four times and marks that either broke into or usurped previous personal bests on the program's all-time outdoor top 10. Additionally, a whopping 18 Gators logged personal records.
Three of the four UF top 10s came from throwers. Sophomore Lloydricia Cameron was the first to do so, notching the No. 3-ranked mark in program history (55.14 meters) to win the discus throw. The other two came later in the day, from javelin throwers Kike Oniwinde and Megan Reed. Oniwinde improved her No. 5 ranking on the UF all-time top 10 by over seven feet (50.94 meters) and is now the No. 17-ranked javelin thrower in Division I this season. Reed, who was on the Gators' softball team at this time last year, threw 47.60 meters, the No. 8 mark in program history.
Four of the top-20 NCAA Division I times came in the sprint and relay events.
The men's 4x100 relay team of Antwan Wright, Hugh Graham Jr., Michael Timpson Jr., and Ryan Clark finished in 39.11, the fourth-fastest time in the country this year. Graham Jr. came back to run the 4x400 relay with Kunle Fasasi, Arman Hall, and Najee Glass, helping the crew to a season-best time of 3:03.07 and the No. 3 ranking nationally.
Hall and Glass were the also top two collegians in their first 400 meters runs of the outdoor season. Hall's time of 45.17 ranks second nationally, while Glass' 45.59 checks in at fifth.
In her first 100 meters race as a collegian, redshirt junior Kyra Jefferson clocked a wind-legal 11.17, the No. 4 time in Division I this year. It also ranks fourth on UF's all-time outdoor top 10.
Claudia Francis and TJ Holmes both recorded impressive times in the 400-meter hurdles, as both cracked the Division I top 10. Francis' time of 56.13 was just one hundredth of a second off the school record.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
On Florida's overall performance on Friday…
"Very pleased. I thought the throwers had a phenomenal meet—big PRs in the javelin, the discus on both sides. Thought the (men's) 4x400 did a good job, Claudia Francis getting close to the school record in a great (400-meter hurdles) run. Really proud of TJ Holmes, who gets a little better each week and is coming along.
"The men's 400 (meters) was big for us. Watching Najee (Glass) and Arman (Hall) run well tonight was really good. Then maybe the highlight of the day was Kyra Jefferson running 11.17 (in the 100 meters). I've been telling her if she trusted her abilities and was patient with the start, she could do that."
On the rainy weather causing delays early in the day…
"It rains. We're an outdoor sport. You're going to get rain delays. It happens sometimes. I was very proud of not just the Florida Gators athletes but all the athletes from the other schools, internationals, and post-collegiate athletes who were here, because everybody just kept running. We delayed a little bit, put the spikes back on, and we ran."
On the number of Gators who competed in events that weren't their specialty…
"With Kyra, running the 100 was more about working on her speed. She's always been strong and been able to finish things, so now we're just working on her ability to start, ability to accelerate. She has big goals, dreams, and aspirations of being an Olympian, and to make the U.S. Olympic team you have to run 21 seconds, I believe.
"And I've always run our 400 guys in the 200 (meters). (The 200) was affected the most by the rain, because it got the downpour and we never stopped the meet. Everybody's warmup was greatly interrupted by that. But (in the event) you work on your foot speed in the 200 and that allows you to come through the first leg of the 400 better."
On next weekend's trips to Penn Relays and LSU Invitational…
"The LSU meet is a great meet. Anytime you can get four or five SEC teams in the same place, there's going to be fireworks. We're just going to go in there and engage in the party like everybody else. Penn Relays is kind of a special trip. Najee is from there and I promised him we'd go there before he graduated. We're going to go up there and see if we can have a little fun."
