DURHAM, N.C. – Logan Shore has been selected as one of four finalists for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate baseball player, USA Baseball announced on Monday (June 13).
Along with Shore, Clemson's Seth Beer, Mercer's Kyle Lewis, and Louisville's Corey Ray were named finalists.
The award presentation will air on ESPN's flagship program, SportsCenter, for the third consecutive year, during the 7 p.m. EDT show on June 30.
Fans are able to vote for the 2016 award by visiting GoldenSpikesAward.com and selecting their favorite finalist. Voting for fans and the voting body ends at 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 24.
Following the announcement of the award, all four finalists will be celebrated at the Jonathan Club Los Angeles as part of the 2016 Rod Dedeaux Award Dinner. Hosted by the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the dinner will honor the Golden Spikes Award finalists, the Rod Dedeaux Award winner and the Rod Dedeaux USA Baseball Coach of the Year award winner, Willie Randolph.
Shore, who was chosen by the Oakland Athletics with the 47th overall pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on June 9, boasts a 12-0 record this season and has won 17 consecutive decisions, a school record, dating back to May 14, 2015. The Coon Rapids, Minn. native also owns a 2.24 earned run average, 89 strikeouts, and just 17 walks in his 17 starts this season. Shore's 100.1 innings pitched this year lead all Gators.
A 2016 Baseball America first-team All-American and Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year, Shore's 30 career wins are the second-most in program history, only one behind Marc Valdez's (1991-93) school-record 31 victories.
In his most recent outing, Shore threw eight scoreless innings, striking out nine and yielding a mere two hits and two walks over the course of a season-high 114 pitches, to stymie Florida State in Game 2 of the Gainesville NCAA Super Regional. Behind Shore's effort, the Gators collected a 5-0 victory and forced a series-deciding Game 3, which will send the winner to the College World Series.
Shore and the Gators (51-14), the No. 1 national seed for the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament, face Florida State Monday night at McKethan Stadium, with a trip to Omaha riding on the outcome.
