Freshman Morgyn Greer on USA Junior National Team Training Roster

Greer will compete this week for a spot on the 12-player JNT that will play in the NORCECA U20 Championship.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida incoming freshman outside hitter Morgyn Greer is already making a splash at the national level, and she hasn't even suited up for the Orange and Blue yet. Greer, who begins her tenure as a Gator this fall, is one of 19 players named to the U.S. Women's Junior National Training Team for the 2016 season.
"The USA Junior National Team is the highest level of competition for high school age players," head coach Mary Wise remarked. "Morgyn will have a chance to play with and compete against some of the best. The experience will only help her in the transition from high school to college."
Greer, who was the championship-game MVP while guiding Dripping Springs High School to the 2015 Class 5A state volleyball championship last fall, has a long list of accolades including an extensive background in the USA Volleyball system. Greer was named the 2015-16 Gatorade Texas Volleyball Player of the Year, was a 2015-16 Under Armour First Team All-American, is a three-time All-State selection and was named the class 5A-6A Athlete of the Year by the Texas Girls Association.
"The awesome part about the USA program is that you're able to compete against the best in the world," Greer said. "Being able to represent one's country on the court is an unbelievable feeling -- knowing that you're not just playing for yourself or your teammates, but an entire nation, really makes me sit back and think about how special this opportunity is. Friendships are formed so quickly because of all the hours of dedication we put in during our short time together."
The Austin-area product is one of eight pin hitters on the JNT Training Team, which will begin training Monday for a week in Ft. Lauderdale July 11-18. The final 12-player roster for the U.S. Women's Junior National Team will be selected on July 19. Those players will represent the United States at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships July 19-23 in Ft. Lauderdale before competing in the NORCECA Women's U20 Continental Championship July 24-August 1 at Nova Southeastern in South Florida. Laurie Corbelli, head coach at Texas A&M, was selected to serve as the U.S. Women's Junior National Team head coach.
