Sunday proved to be an eventful day for Florida, headlined by Dressel and Team USA winning gold in the 4x100 free relay final.
Dressel, who did not swim in the event's heats, led off the Americans in the finals. He swam a split of 48.10, while teammates Michael Phelps (47.12), Ryan Held (47.73) and Nathan Adrian (46.97) followed to fend off second-place France and third-place Australia with a total time of 3:09.92.
Conor Dwyer, Hilda Luthersdottir and Corey Main also saw action in the evening events. Dwyer won his 200 free semifinal heat at 1:45.55, advancing to Monday night's finals. Luthersdottir finished fourth in her 100 breast heat but grabbed the 7-seed in Monday's final with a 1:06.71 time. Two-time Olympian Luthersdottir is now the first female Icelandic swimmer to compete in an Olympic final. Main, competing in the 100 back for New Zealand, finished seventh in his semifinal at 54.29 but missed the cut-off for the event's final. Earlier in the day during heats, he swam a personal-best 53.99 to win his heat.
Mitch D'Arrigo and Jan Switkowski made their Olympic debuts in the 200 free and 4x100 free relay heats respectively. D'Arrigo finished fourth in his 200 free heat at 1:47.46, while Switkowski swam the third leg of the 4x100 free relay at 48.64 to help Poland to a 3:15.52 time.
