Florida won the men's Covered Bridge Open last year, while its women finished second
BOONE, N.C. – The Florida men's and women's cross country teams open the 2016 season Friday (Sep. 2) evening at the Covered Bridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C.
The Gators, who were picked fourth on the women's side and tied for fifth on the men's side of last week's SEC Cross Country Coaches Preseason Poll, both return a handful of 2015 contributors.
The women will be led by 2014 USTFCCCA All-South Region honorees Taylor Tubbs and Becky Greene, along with SEC All-Freshman honoree Elisabeth Bergh.
Sophomore transfer Noora Wallenius, who won the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Championship at Arkansas-Little Rock, Hannah Brookover, the 2015 FHSAA Class 1A Cross Country State Championship winner, and Jessica Pascoe, the 2016 Australian Junior Cross Country Championships winner, are early standouts among the newcomers.
For the men, 2015 USTFCCCA All-South Region honoree Carlos Miranda and SEC All-Freshman honoree Jack Guyton will lead the way. Sophomore Seamus Love and redshirt senior Mac Reynolds are also expected to run up front for the Gators this year.
