Additionally, five of the six Gators competing this weekend set themselves up to play in the final of their respective draws.
Kourtney Keegan, Anna Danilina, Belinda Woolcock, Josie Kuhlman and Peggy Porter all will play for a championship on Sunday.
Pairing together for the first time, Kourtney Keegan and Peggy Porter teamed in the BLUE doubles draw and Anna Danilina and Spencer Liang in the WHITE draw and both teams captured the title of their respective draws.
Individual Results of Note:
- Junior Anna Danilina netted her second consecutive double-bagel win of the season and the third of her career to reach the final of the GOLD draw.
- Belinda Woolcock and Josie Kuhlman won their respective matches in straight sets, with Woolcock taking a 6-3, 6-0 decision and Kuhlman a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
- Kourtney Keegan earned praise from head coach Roland Thornqvist for her grit at the end of both sets, which were tied at 4-all before Keegan won the final two games of each set to earn the straight-set victory and reach the final.
- Peggy Porter rallied for a tough three-set victory, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, and advanced to the final of the BLACK draw.
- Spencer Liang was the only Gator playing a ranked opponent on Saturday and she wasn't able to pull the upset and will play in the third-place match of the WHITE draw on Sunday.
Doubling Their Pleasure:
- Pairing together for the first time, Kourtney Keegan and Peggy Porter captured the BLUE draw crown with an 8-2 victory in the final versus VCU's Anna Rasmussen and Janina Braun.
- Also pairing together for the first time, Anna Danilina and Spencer Liang won the WHITE draw with an 8-7 (1) win against Duke's Alyssa Smith and Chalena Scholl.
- Josie Kulhman and Belinda Woolcock defeated TCU's Donika Bashota and Marie Norris, 8-5, in the third place match.
Quoting Head Coach Roland Thornqvist:
- On the Gators performance on the second day of their season-opening event: "It was another stellar day. We began the morning with three doubles wins and came away with two championship trophies. We played really well. We had to problem-solve some and I was real pleased to see with Spencer (Liang) and Anna (Danilina), whose final was decided in a tiebreak, played some of their best tennis in the games leading up to the tiebreak and the tiebreak in and of itself."
- On singles play: "We had a few straight-forward matches, but both Kourtney (Keegan) and Peggy (Porter) were challenged and I thought played really well at the end of sets. Kourtney was at 4-all in both sets (won 6-4, 6-4) and did a good job. Peggy had a come-from-behind in a three-set win. I like where we are fitness-wise and mentally. I think we're doing really well."
