No. 7 Gators Blank Michigan State, Sweep Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- No. 7 Florida swept Michigan State Sunday (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) to wrap up a three-match swing in East Lansing with three straight-set victories at Jenison Field House.
Junior Carli Snyder, MVP of the Spartan Invitational, came back to her native Michigan and put on a show for the home crowd. Through the three-match tournament, Snyder hit .494 with 43 kills (4.78/s) and scored a team-high 4.89 points per set. Veterans Alex Holston and Rhamat Alhassan were named to the Spartan Invitational All-Tournament Team alongside Snyder as the trio posted 35 of Florida's 37 kills on the afternoon against Michigan State.
Snyder (15), Holston (14), Alhassan (6) and Greer – who had two monster swings for kills in the third set – fueled Florida's offense through sophomore setter Allie Monserez (31 assists). Sophomore Taelor Kellum posted a career high five blocks, while Monserez posted a career best four roofs as the Gators tallied nine blocks to MSU's four on the afternoon.
Florida held all three of its weekend opponents, Central Michigan, Morgan State & Michigan State, under a .100 clip, limiting the Spartans to a .098 efficiency Sunday. UF hit .400 in the opening set, Michigan State -.071 in the first and .000 in the second. The Spartans had 22 attack errors in the match, while the Gators chalked up their third straight single-digit error match (9) for a .341 hitting efficiency.
Holston and junior libero Caroline Knop each served up two of UF's six aces against MSU as Florida dropped 2.44 aces per set (22) through the tournament. Redshirt sophomore Lindsey Rogers led the way with six, freshman Chanelle Hargreaves with four, CK and freshman Allie Gregory with three service aces each.
It's back to the road for the Orange and Blue next weekend at the Blackbird Invitational, hosted by LIU Brooklyn. Then, a mid-week tilt with Sunshine State foe FSU stands between the Gators and their home opener in the Lemerand Athletic Center Sept. 16.
