Thursday, October 26, 2017 | Cross Country
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida cross country teams head to compete at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Georgia this Friday (Oct. 27) at the UGA Golf Course.
The men's 8k race, slated for a 10 a.m. ET start, will be followed by the women's 6k race that is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony will follow shortly after the conclusion of both races.
Admission to the 2017 SEC Cross Country Championships is free with spectator parking and shuttle service available at the Jack Turner Complex parking lot.
Florida enters this year's championships after having spent the last three weeks training and away from collegiate competition. At its last meet, the Florida State Invitational, both squads saw growth in both race strategy and speed.
On the men's side, seven Gators set new personal bests at the 8k distance and ran consistently in a pack. Jack Rogers turned in the fastest time for the men at that distance (25:08.30) so far this season when he placed eighth at the Florida State Invitational.
Tomorrow will be the first race of the season for the Florida women at the 6k distance.
Jessica Pascoe has been the strongest runner for the women this year as she has turned in a top-10 finish in every race so far this season for the Gators.
Prior to the start of the season both UF squads were picked to finish eighth overall.
A one-hour SEC Cross Country Championships highlight show will air Sunday (Nov. 5) at 12 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
