Gators sit seventh after one round
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- After 18 holes, Marta Perez sits in the top 20 of the leaderboard at the Landfall Tradition.
Over the final 10 holes, Perez circled the scorecard four times to boost her score. Perez carded a 72 (E) on the first day to lead the Gators who currently are six-over and tied for seventh.
Taylor Tomlinson and Carlotta Ricolfi are just one stroke back of her at one-over each tallying three birdies on the day. They are tied for 29th heading into the second day.
All three recorded a birdie on the par five 18th before playing their final nine on the front side of the Dye Course.
That boost helped the Gators shoot four-under over the last nine holes. This included a three-under nine holes from Perez and two-under from Tomlinson.
The tournament in Wilmington, N.C. continues tomorrow with the second round of play beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
Coach's Take:
On round one of the tournament -- "I think the whole team took a lot away from today. We aren't happy with the score but, I thought it made for a lot of great talking points after the round about areas for real growth both on and off the course."
On improvements for the rest of the week -- "We need to get off to a little faster start and not put ourselves in a position where we have to work so hard to dig our way back. This is all a process and today was a great day to learn from. We will work hard yet next two days to keep improving." -Coach Emily Glaser
