The Gator senior went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles play.
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Brooke Austin had a sensational opening day of qualifying play at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Club on Tuesday.
The Gator senior began with an impressive 6-4, 6-1 victory against Arkansas' No. 36-ranked Ana Oparenovic, before posting a 6-1, 6-2 win against Denver's No. 87 Bianca Monk.
Austin also paired with fellow senior Peggy Porter on the doubles court and the team knocked off Texas Tech's No. 2-seeded and No. 21-ranked Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Talaba in the opening round, 8-6.
The 93rd-ranked Austin returns to the court on Wednesday, where she plays Georgia's Katarina Jokic for right to advance into the prestigious main draw of the national championship event.
Austin and Porter play Northwestern's Erin Larner and Lee Or in the second round, with the winner of that match playing a third round contests and moving on to the main draw.
Wednesday is the final day of qualifying draw action, with the main draw running from October 5-8.
