Wednesday, October 4, 2017 | Cross Country
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Just two weeks removed from the Mountain Dew Invitational, the University of Florida cross country teams now set their sights on the Florida State Invitational this upcoming Friday at Apalachee Regional Park.
The Florida women have made strides through the first two meets of the 2017 season. The squad captured their 12th overall Mountain Dew Invitational (Sept. 23) 5k title with a total team time of 1:32:24, which is over three minutes faster than their first race of the season at the UNF Invitational (1:35:31).
Sophomore Jessica Pascoe paced the Gators over that stretch with back-to-back top-10 finishes. Pascoe placed second overall at the UNF Invitational (18:11.12) and improved her 5k time at the MDI (17:48.60) to finish fourth overall.
Autumn Bartlett, Emily Chapman, Laura Jones, Caitlin McQuilkin-Bell and Lauren Perry have each recorded top-10 finishes this season.
The men will compete in their second 8k race of the season and look to build on the progress made at the MDI and through the past two weeks of training.
Blake Lowery tallied the fastest 8k time this season for UF and helped the Gators achieve a third place finish at the MDI with his time of 26:08.80. Jonathan Hulzebos and Jack Rogers both posted personal records at the 8k distance.
