Brooke Austin joins Anna Danilina and Josie Kuhlman in the main draw.
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Brooke Austin marched into the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships after winning her third qualifying draw singles match in two days at the Riviera Tennis Club.
There's no rest for Austin, who returns to the court on Thursday, when she'll play North Carolina's No. 22-ranked Jessie Aney at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT in the first round of the 32-player main draw.
The Gator senior captured a thrilling comeback against Georgia's Katarina Jokic, 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-3, in the third and final round of the qualifying draw to earn one of eight spots in the prestigious main draw of the national championship event.
Quoting UF Associate Head Coach Dave Balogh
"I'm super proud of Brooke today. She played a very good player from Georgia and Brooke just could not find any rhythm or feel for the first set and a half. Somehow, she completely turned that match around the end of the second set tiebreak to force a third set. This was one of Brooke's best comebacks in her career for sure!"
More Gators in the Main Draw
Gators joining Austin in action on Thursday are Anna Danilina and Josie Kuhlman, both of whom received automatic berths into the main draw.
Danilina, ranked No. 15 in the country, plays California's fourth-seeded and No. 5-ranked Karla Popovic at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT.
No. 12-ranked Kuhlman takes on Ole Miss' No. 17-ranked Arianne Hartono at 2:45 p.m. ET/11:45 a.m. PT.
Doubles Out
Austin also paired with fellow senior Peggy Porter on the doubles court and the Gator team wasn't able to keep its momentum after Tuesday's big upset win and dropped an 8-4 decision to Northwestern's Erin Larner and Lee Or in the second round.
Wednesday was the final day of qualifying draw action, with the main draw running from October 5-8.
