Gators Close 2017 Season At NCAA South Regional Championships

Four Gators on the women's team posted personal record times at this year's NCAA South Regional.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 2017 University of Florida cross country season came to close Friday (Nov. 10) morning at the NCAA South Regional Championships held at Harry Pritchett Running Park.

The Gators placed 15th on the men's side with 395 points and the women finished 22nd overall with a total of 644 points.

The Florida women took to the course first and turned in a trio of personal record times. The Gators top finisher Caitlin McQuilkin-Bell (51st) dropped her best time from 21:56.30 to 21:17.10, while Madison Morse (204th) and Emily Chapman (171st) also cranked out their best career times in the race.

The duo of Autumn Bartlett and Delaney Tiernan also pushed their limit to turn in their best times of the 2017 season in a 6k race.

On the men's side, the team tackled its first 10k of the season. Actually, it was the first collegiate cross country race at the 10k distance for any of the men running today.

Jack Rogers turned in the Gators top time with his 69th place finish. However, the entire pack wasn't far behind, every scoring time for Florida finished inside of a minute from when Rogers crossed the line.

Next up for the Gators distance unit will be training for the transition to the indoor track & field season.

Quotable Quotes

Assistant Coach Chris Solinsky

On the women's performance…
"I? thought the ladies really played the cards we were dealt with, considering injuries, very well. To walk out with four personal bests and two season bests, shows the progress we have made this season and how bright our future is. We get our top ladies back in the lineup means much higher team place. These ladies really worked hard this season and there is a lot of momentum being built for track and next year."

On the men's performance…
"The men really executed our plan well of running together and putting themselves in the race. It was everyone's first 10k, so there was a little shock in the later parts of the race, but they all gathered themselves and finished strong. As with the ladies we have really built some good energy and momentum all year. I'm very pleased with what we are seeing with this group."

On moving forward into indoor track season…
"The future is bright for the Gators! We are excited to keep building momentum to make some noise in track and use that to spring board us into much better overall team results next cross country season."
