Gators Enjoy Success in Different Events Friday

A trio of Gators won a pair of singles matches on Friday to advance at their respective tournaments.
Palm Desert, CA/Bradenton, FL – UF senior Anna Danilina advanced to the consolation semifinals of the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships with a pair of wins Friday at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
 
Senior Josie Kuhlman and freshman Katie Kubicz both advanced to the quarterfinals of the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic held at The Athletic Center at Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton, Fla., where action began Friday.
 
Danilina began her day with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Winthrop's Lauren Proctor in the round of 16 before she earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Texas' No. 39-ranked Petra Granic.
 
As the No. 12-ranked player in the country, Kuhlman received the No. 1 seed for the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic and opened with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 posting against FGCU's Sofia Perez in the first round before knocking off Appalachian State's Maria Jose Zacarias, 6-1, 7-6 (2).
 
Kubicz defeated FGCU's Julia Ascua, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round before earning a 6-2, 6-2 win over South Florida's Juliana Cardoso.
 
Senior Peggy Porter also won her first round, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 versus FGCU's Maja Ornberg, but dropped a 6-4, 6-3 spot to UCF's Monica Matias.
 
Action at both events continues Saturday.

The 4-1-1 on the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships
  • The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will feature a 64-player singles draw, while doubles consist of a 32-team draw.
  • Matches will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

  • Sat., Nov. 4: Singles semifinals
  • Sun., Nov. 5: Singles final
 
Qualifications
  • Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.
