Thursday, February 9, 2017 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Elisabeth Bergh and both of Florida's cross country teams earned academic awards from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the national office announced Thursday (Feb. 9).
Bergh is Florida's fifth USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Individual honoree since 2013, and the 11th honoree in program history.
The men's team earned its second consecutive team honor, posting a 3.16 grade point average this past fall. It is the seventh honor in program history, but only the second time (2006-07) the Gators earned it in consecutive seasons.
This past year marks the fifth straight and 15th all-time team honor for the women, who posted a 3.40 GPA. Florida's women have been an All-Academic Team 10 of the last 11 years.
To qualify for the individual award, student-athletes must finish in the top 25 at an NCAA Regional Championship and have above a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Bergh finished ninth overall at the 2016 NCAA South Region Championship. Teams must finish with a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic award.
