GAINESVILLE, Fla. – This weekend, the Florida women's tennis team will do something that no other Gator team – in any sport – has ever done. That's saying a lot considering the amazingly talented and historic events Florida athletics has experienced.
First on Saturday, February 18 and then on Sunday, February 19, the Gators will play host to the previous season's national finalists. Back to back days. Less than 24 hours apart.
Gator lacrosse has played the two finalists from the previous year during a season, however, never at home and never on consecutive days.
Not to mention the Gator's home win streak.
Florida has won 161 consecutive home matches.
It is the longest active home win streak, of any NCAA Division I team, in any sport.
The Gators have not lost at home since dropping a 4-3 decision to Miami on May 15, 2004, in the NCAA Second Round.
Florida is the No. 1-ranked team in the country, according to this week's national polls. Oklahoma State is No. 6. Stanford is No. 5.
The Cardinal defeated the Cowgirls, 4-3, in the 2016 NCAA Championship match. Stanford ended Florida's 2016 season with a 4-3 decision in the round of 16.
On Saturday, Florida will play host to Oklahoma State at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, the Gators welcome Stanford to the Ring Tennis Complex, with first-serve set for 12 Noon.
If there was ever a weekend pair of matches that was "Must See" – this is it!
Admission is FREE to all regular-season home matches.
Weekend Promotions:
- Saturday: The first 100 fans will receive Florida Gators Sunglasses
- Sunday: The first 200 fans will receive a Florida Tennis T-Shirt.
