Florida Hosts SunTrust Gator Invitational This Weekend

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida's women's golf team hosts 13 schools this weekend (March 11-12) for the 2017 SunTrust Gator Invitational. In addition to the No. 6-ranked Gators, two other top-30 teams will be competing in the two-day event.
UF has won its annual home tournament six of the last 10 years, including a season ago.
In the 2016 SunTrust Gator Invitational, UF won the event with an 11-stroke lead over the field at 22-over (862). That score marked the second-lowest total in the Gator Invite's 44-year history.
Individually at last season's Gator Invite, Maria Torres led the Gators at five-over (215) and tied for fifth. Meanwhile, Karolina Vlckova, Taylor Tomlinson and Kelly Grassel all finished in the top-20 as they finished tied for 6th (six-over, 216), tied of 12th (eight-over, 218) and tied for 19th (11-over, 216), respectively.
UF last competed two weeks ago at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate where Grassel paced the Gators with her fourth top-10 finish of the season. The senior tied for seventh place with a one-over (215) in New Orleans.
As a team, Florida finished in second place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, posting a 10-over, 874.
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the Par-70, 6,701 yards Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over two days.

Senior Maria Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico): Finished in ninth place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at even-par (216) to record her fourth top-ten finish of the season.
Sophomore Sam Wagner (Windermere, Fla.): Competed last at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, where she tied for 67th at 16-over (229).
Senior Kelly Grassel (Chesterton, Ind.): Lead the Gators at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for a tie for seventh at one-over (215).
Freshman Marta Perez (Valencia, Spain): Carded an eight-over (224) at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, to finish in a tie for 32nd.
Junior Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.): Tied for 32nd place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, carding an eight-over (77).
