Gators Roll Through Crimson Tide in 4-0 Sweep

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 12 Florida men's tennis team pulled out a 4-0 sweep of Alabama. This marks the team's second consecutive sweep of an SEC team after defeating Vanderbilt 7-0 on Sunday (March 26).
With a 6-1 conference record, the Gators now sit in third place in the SEC, following undefeated Georgia (8-0) and Texas A&M (7-0). Florida's win over the Crimson Tide is the team's fifth consecutive win, which is currently the longest streak in the conference.
In doubles play, Chase Perez-Blanco and Joshua Wardell earned a quick 6-1 win over Alabama's Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou in the No. 3 position. Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin clinched the doubles point for the Gators with a 7-5 win over Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov. The No. 6 team of Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez were locked in a tight battle with No. 40 Mazen Osama and Spencer Richey, as the match was abandoned in a tiebreak.
In singles play, Perez-Blanco earned the first singles point for the Gators, rolling through Ortiz to win 6-2, 6-0. Ingildsen followed close behind, defeating Nesterov 6-3, 6-0.
With a 3-0 lead and close matches on the four remaining courts, the clinching point was in anyone's hands. Orkin, Lipman and Joseph Guillin were all within one game of winning their matches, but Lipman was able to clinch the match in a tiebreak with a 6-3, 7-6 win.
The Gators will head to Lexington to take on Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. The team is looking for some important wins in the next two weeks, as two of the next three opponents they will see on the road are ranked in the top 25 (No. 24 Kentucky and No. 14 Georgia).
