Singer Named to Team USA
Monday, April 17, 2017 | Baseball

Singer is the 20th Florida player to be named to the Team USA Collegiate National Team. Under head coach Kevin O'Sullivan, 14 Gators have selected for Team USA.
Since moving into the weekend rotation in 2017, Singer has been a dominant force on the mound. In nine starts, he has a 1.68 earned run average in a team high 64.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting just .219 against him and he has yet to allow a home run in his collegiate career.
Singer has been remarkably consistent, averaging 7.15 innings per start and he has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his nine starts this season. He has pitched three complete games on the season and has totaled 55 strikeouts to 15 walks.
Last summer, three Gators helped Team USA finish with an 11-7-1 record on the summer, including the Collegiate National Team's first ever series win in Cuba to wrap the tour. Alex Faedo was the standout, as he tied for the team lead with 21 strikeouts and had just three walks in 16 innings pitched. He finished the summer with a 3-0 record and 0.56 earned run average.
Shortstop Dalton Guthrie and catcher Mike Rivera struggled at the plate, but provided steady defense throughout the tour in a bunch of low scoring games. Guthrie hit .191 (9-for-47) and scored eight runs while making just two errors in 19 games at shortstop. Rivera was 2-for-22 at the plate in 13 games but gunned down seven of 11 base stealers and made no errors behind the plate.
The 2017 Collegiate National Team will train at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, and compete in a series of games with teams from the Coastal Plains League from June 20-25. The U.S. will then host international friendship series against Chinese Taipei and Cuba from June 27 – July 7, in Cary, Charlotte and Durham, North Carolina.
Both series will be streamed live on USABaseball.com. Follow @USABaseball and @USABaseballCNT on Twitter for all of the latest news on USA Baseball and the Collegiate National Team.
