
Gators to Open Postseason Play at SEC Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida's women's golf team will begin postseason play this weekend at the SEC Women's Golf Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The No. 6-ranked Gators will face off against five other top-25 opponents in the three-day event (Friday-Sunday).
A season ago at the league championships, Maria Torres took home the SEC individual title with a collegiate-best nine-under (207). Torres became the seventh Gator to claim the crown and the first since Aimee Cho in 2003.
As a team in 2016, Florida finished in second place at even-par (864). Kelly Grassel also finished in the top-15, with a tie for 11th at three-over (219).
Florida last competed three weeks ago at the Clemson Invitational, where it finished third. Individually, Torres took home her sixth top-10 finish of the season at the Clemson Invitational, after she tied for second at seven-under (209). Karolina Vlckova and Taylor Tomlinson both finished in the top-15, as they finished tied for 12th at even-par (216).
UF finished the 2016-17 regular season with four team titles and four individual titles.
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the Par 72, 6,202 yards Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over three days.

The Gators' Lineup:
Senior Maria Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico): Won three individuals titles during the regular season, with her most recent coming at the Briar's Creek Invitational.
Senior Karolina Vlckova (Unhošt, Czech Republic): Had seven top-25 finishes in the regular season, her best coming at the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
Junior Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.): Took home the second individual title of her collegiate career at the Northrop Grumman Regional.
Freshman Marta Perez (Valencia, Spain): Shared the individual title at the Florida Challenge, which was the first individual win of her collegiate career.
Senior Kelly Grassel (Chesterton, Ind.): Had five top-10 finishes this season, her best came at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship where she finished second.

"Our goal is to keep things as simple as possible and try to approach it as we would any other event. Our league is so tough and it will be a really fun battle."
