Senior-Laden Gators Make Strides in Spring Matches

Florida's 2017 roster will feature a program-record six seniors and numerous sophomores
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 2017 Florida volleyball team will feature six seniors, more than any other squad in program history, and those veterans aided the development of last year's freshman class in three spring exhibition matches.
"Spring is when we see the greatest strides in player development, and this was certainly the case for our freshman class," head coach Mary Wise said. "We did a lot of experimenting with lineups and positions, trying to find a way to replace graduating senior Alex Holston, who led us in points last year.
"With six seniors on our roster, we will rely on their leadership this summer when the entire team is on campus preparing for the season."
Some statistical highlights from the spring included:
Assists and digs were sparingly tracked in the traditional statistical form, though Coach Wise praised the impressive work in extended action by rising sophomore setter Cheyenne Huskey, as well as rising sophomore defensive specialists Allie Gregory and Chanelle Hargraves.
"Perhaps the players that showed the most improvement this spring were Chanelle, Allie, and Cheyenne" Wise said. "All three put in a lot of work and made the most of their opportunities."
