Last Week for the Gators:
The earliest Gator goal of the season was all Florida needed to open SEC play last Thursday with a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten then-No. 24 Mississippi. Gabby Seiler found Melanie Monteagudo on a throw-in. Monteagudo took a couple of touches to create space before crossing the ball into the middle of the box. It bounced between Rebel defenders and Mayra Pelayo's left-footed swipe from nine-yards scored at the far post. The goal ended Mississippi's shutout streak record at 569 minutes. It was the third time in the last five meetings that both programs brought a top-25 ranking. The match was the first appearance for Gator goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese, who was sidelined for the first six matches with a hand injury. She turned in her 15th career solo shutout versus the nation's leading goal scoring team.
Two goals – including the 96th minute golden goal – from freshman Deanne Rose gave the Gators a 2-1 overtime win Sunday at Iowa State. Iowa State led at halftime after Klasey Medelberg scored in the 14th minute off a corner kick. Rose tied the match in the 56th minute when she tucked in the low ball off Gabby Seiler's corner kick at the near post. The golden goal started with the Gators moving through the Cyclone half. Parker Roberts took a few touches above the box and then sent a diagonal through ball for Rose. She caught up with it on a slanted run and touched it in from seven years to end the match. It was Florida's second overtime match of the season, as it started the season with a 1-0 OT win at Florida Atlantic. Marckese's six saves Sunday equaled her collegiate high for the sixth time.
TopDrawerSoccer placed Rose on their Division I Team of the Week after her double goal match at Iowa State. She is the second Gator on a TDS National Team of the Week, as Seiler was the Aug. 29 TDS National Player of the Week.
