Florida holds one shot lead, Tosti atop individual leaderboard
ROCKY FACE, Ga.. -- After 18-holes of play at the Carpet Capital Invitational, the Gators have a one shot lead while Alejandro Tosti is atop the leaderboard.
Florida had four golfers finish round one of the competition inside the top 15 with Tosti pacing the Gators with a bogey-free 66 (-6) to lead the field.
Freshman Chris Nido, who was making his first appearance for the Gators, joined Tosti in the top 10 finishing with an opening round 71 (-1). Nido like Tosti also finished the day without a blemish on his scorecard. He was able to shoot below par after birding the 12th hole.
The 12th was kind to the Gators as Tosti and Gordon Neale both carded eagles while Nido and Jorge Garcia made birdie. This helped stretch their lead to five shots at that point as they sat at nine-under-par as a team.
Freshman John Axelsen also made his first start in Orange and Blue. Axelsen finished the day T31 after shooting 74 ( 2). Andy Zhang, competing as an individual, sits T45 at three-over-par.
Coach's Take:
"Honestly, it has been tough to focus on golf this week. Our thoughts and prayers are definitely back in Florida with our family, friends, and everyone who will be affected by the hurricane. We did get up here early to prepare and the guys did a great job getting ready to play. We had a great start today and will continue to play hard for everyone back home. " -Coach JC Deacon
