Thayer Hall has been regarded as the nation's top volleyball recruit for the class of 2018
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida early enrollee Thayer Hall was named the 2017-18 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year Monday morning, as announced by Gatorade.
Gatorade teamed with Bleacher Report to surprise Hall with the award at her family's home in Moore, S.C.
Hall led Dorman (S.C.) High School to a 43-6-1 record and the Class 5A state championship as a senior this past season. The three-time Gatorade South Carolina Player of the Year tallied 638 kills, 361 digs and 43 service aces in 2017.
Hall also played on the U.S. Women's Junior National Team for a second consecutive year, earning MVP honors and leading the Americans to a gold medal at the 2017 U20 Pan American Cup. Winning the tournament qualified Hall and Team USA for the FIVB U20 World Cup—which also featured sophomore Rachael Kramer and freshman Paige Hammons.
In the classroom, Hall maintained a weighted 4.94 grade point average.
Incoming Gators Marlie Monserez (Florida) and Haley Warner (Arkansas) earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors within their respective states. Those two, along with Hall and her fellow early enrollee Lauren Dooley comprise Florida's highly-touted 2018 signing class, which was announced in November.
