
Gators Start Spring Schedule at Florida Challenge

Florida looks to defend title after winning by 12 strokes last season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators open up the season at the Florida Challenge at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, FL
The tournament field, hosted by the University of South Florida , consists of eight teams. The field includes six teams from the state of Florida (Florida, FIU, Jacksonville, Miami, UCF and USF). No. 20 Louisville joins No. 22 Florida as the two ranked teams in the field.
The Gators will look to defend their title as Florida won by 12 strokes including having three players tie on the individual championship. Sophomore's Marta Perez and Carlotta Ricolfi joined then senior Maria Torres as medalists finishing with two round scores of 145 ( 1) while the Gators posted a team score of 582 ( 6).
Sophomore Sierra Brooks will make her debut for the Gators. Brooks was cleared to play for Florida this spring after transferring from Wake Forest. Head Coach Emily Glaser has her penciled in the No. 1 spot.
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the Par-72, 6,114 yards Black Diamond Ranch Quarry Course in Lecanto, Fla.
Format: 36-hole stroke play where teams will play two rounds over one day.
The Gators' Lineup
Sierra Brooks
After spending her freshman season at Wake Forest, Brooks will compete in her first event for Florida.
Taylor Tomlinson
Tomlinson is slotted in as the Gators No. 2 for the second time this season. She was the Gators top finisher the other time at the Windy City Classic tying for 12th on the leaderboard.
Addie Baggarly
Baggarly, penciled in the No. 3 position, recorded a top 25 finish in her first collegiate tournament, the Ocean Course Invitational. Baggarly followed that up by placing 26th at the Scooner Fall Classic.
Carlotta Ricolfi
Ricolfi posted a career-low 68 in the second round of the Windy City Classic which helped propel her to an 18th place finish in the tournament. She also finished in the top 25 at the Ocean Course.
Marta Perez
Perez leads the team and is 12th in the conference in stroke average at 73.18. She was the top finisher in Florida's last tournament, the Landfall Tradition.
Also Competing
Elin Esborn
Esborn is currently 13th in the SEC and second for the Gators in stroke average at 73.27. In spring, she earned All-Tournament honors at the Ocean Course after finishing fifth.
Lauren Waidner
The Florida native will make her second appearance for Florida after competing in the Ocean Course as an individual.
