Florida's men are the reigning outdoor national champions and finished second at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships
CLEMSON, S.C. – University of Florida track and field—which is expected to boast highly-ranked men's and women's teams when the preseason rankings are released Wednesday—opens the 2018 campaign Saturday at Clemson's Orange & Purple Classic.
The Gators are not wasting any time chasing qualifying times and marks for the NCAA Indoor Championships, where the men's squad finished second by a half-point last season.
Three-time national champion horizontal jumper KeAndre Bates, two-time national champion hurdler Grant Holloway, two-time indoor All-American jumper Clayton Brown, two-time indoor All-American sprinter Ryan Clark, and 2017 indoor All-American weight thrower AJ McFarland all open their seasons in primary events. Junior quarter-miler Kunle Fasasi, a finalist at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships, also begins his season in the 300 meters.
On the women's side, 2017 indoor All-American and outdoor SEC champion shot putter Lloydricia Cameron, two-time indoor All-American horizontal jumper Yanis David, and five-time indoor All-American horizontal jumper Darrielle McQueen open in their primary events. Junior quarter-miler Sharrika Barnett, a two-time indoor All-American last season, begins her season in the 300 meters.
Saturday also marks the debut of several freshmen from the Gators' star-studded 2017 recruiting classes, which were ranked in the top seven nationally by Track & Field News.
