Pearl Earns SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second straight week Vanessa Pearl was named the SEC Freshman of the Week. The league office announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.
In the second weekend of competition, Pearl collected three more individual wins and one relay victory. She won the 100 Breast with a mark of 1:02.66, the 200 Breast with a swim of 2:14.47, and the 400 IM in a time of 4:13.32. Her time in the 400 IM is the fastest time by a freshman and is the fourth fastest in the NCAA of this year. After her perfect weekend, Pearl posted the fastest times by a freshman in the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, and 400 IM in the SEC. Her time in the 400 IM was an NCAA B cut time. In the 400 medley relay, Pearl swam a 1:01.97 on the second leg as her team placed first.
The Gators return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 19, for a tri-meet against Texas and Indiana in Austin, Texas.
