
Gators Start Off Strong at Southeast Regionals

UF sends four to round of 16 at ITA Regionals

ATLANTA – The University of Florida women's tennis team put together an impressive first day of competition at the ITA Southeast Regionals Friday afternoon as it registered a 10-2 record on the singles court to advance four players to the round of 16.
In addition to their strong start in singles, the Gators recorded a 2-1 mark on the doubles court to send two tandems to the round of 16.
Play resumes Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. ET from the campus of Georgia Tech University.
Facing off against some of the region's most talented players, Florida got off to a smashing start on the singles circuit, registering a perfect 6-0 record in the round of 64. In the day's first slate of matches, the Gators were focused early as each player won their first set. All six Gators who made the journey north to Atlanta, Victoria Emma, Ida Jarlskog, Katie Kubicz, McCartney Kessler, Marlee Zein and Tsveta Dimitrova, notched opening-round victories.
In the round of 32, UF maintained its momentum, advancing four through to the round of 16. Sophomores Jarlskog, Kessler and Emma all punched their ticket to Saturday's singles action along with the freshman Zein.
Zein, Jarlskog and Kessler all came away with two-set victories while Emma recorded a win with a three-set thriller in Friday's night cap over fellow SEC competitor Vivian Wolff.
The Gators began the day on the doubles circuit, posting a 2-1 record in the morning session. Kessler/Emma cruised to an 8-4 victory over FGCU's tandem of Ornberng/Ascuz while Jarlskog/Dimitrova recorded a hard-fought 8-7 (10-8) triumph over Georgia State's Grosheva/Vovk. Kubicz/Zein dropped an 8-6 decision to Stetson's Renault/Milner.
Jarlskog, who spent her first season playing collegiate tennis at Georgia Tech, returned to the Ken Byers Tennis Complex where she played her home matches as a Yellow Jacket earlier thing Spring.

The 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will be held Nov. 7-11 at the Sunrise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.
