For the third time this season, senior Taelor Kellum was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After a career-best weekend, senior middle blocker Taelor Kellum earned the title of SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
This is Kellum's third SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season and it's the third-straight week a Gator has earned the honor (Kellum, Rachael Kramer, Kellum).
In two matches over the weekend, Kellum posted 25 blocks, including a career-best 13-block performance against Missouri on Sunday. She averaged 2.78 blocks per set and 3.22 points per set in the two matches.
The 13 blocks are the second-best total in program history in the rally scoring era, coming behind only Rhamat Alhassan's 14-block performance against James Madison on Aug. 29, 2015.
Her blocking performance helped Florida set a new rally scoring era program record for the most blocks in a match. The squad totaled 23.5 against Missouri, surpassing the previous record set last Friday against Ole Miss (23.0).
The Chattanooga, Tenn. native also posted 12 blocks in a four-set match at Ole Miss. That is the third-highest total in the rally scoring era.
Currently, Kellum sits fourth overall in the league in blocks per set (1.21) and fifth in hitting percentage (.361). During conference play, her numbers have been off the charts – she sits second in blocks per set (1.44) and hitting percentage (.383).
Kellum and the Gators return to action on Sunday afternoon to face Mississippi State at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT. The match will stream on the SEC Network +.
