Highlights
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 13 Florida Gators (19-4, 10-1 SEC) swept the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Gators have now achieved at least 10 SEC wins in each of the 28 seasons under head coach
Mary Wise.
Florida won the first set, 25-18, then took the second frame, 25-21. Mississippi State held its own in the third set, but Florida was able to come out with a 25-20 win to clinch the match.
Paige Hammons paced the Gators' offense, finishing with 12 kills and only two errors.
Holly Carlton pitched in 11 kills of her own and
Taelor Kellum registered seven.
Allie Monserez led the team with 15 assists and
Marlie Monserez followed with 11. M. Monserez also posted a career-high four kills and three blocks.
Allie Gregory controlled the backcourt defense for Florida, posting 20 digs on the afternoon.
Paula Cerame added a career-high eight digs of her own.
Rachael Kramer led the defense at the net, recording six blocks in the match.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday for a nationally-televised Top-15 matchup with Kentucky. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
How It Happened
- Florida fell behind 4-1 early in the first set, but a seven-point service run by Holly Carlton gave UF the 9-4 lead. The Bulldogs fought back to tie the frame at 10-10, but the Gators then went on an 11-4 run to take the 21-14 lead late. Florida was able to close out the frame thanks to two Gator kills and two Mississippi State errors.
- The Gators racked up 14 kills in the first set on a .281 hit clip, all while holding the Bulldogs to a .032 hitting percentage. Paige Hammons led the way with four kills, while Taelor Kellum and Holly Carlton each pitched in three apiece.
- The second frame was tied 8-8, but the Gators utilized an 8-2 run to take the 16-10 advantage. Florida was able to hold on to at least a three-point lead the rest of way, closing out the set on a solo block from Mia Sokolowski.
- Florida recorded a .216 attacking percentage in the second frame, forcing Mississippi State into 14 total errors. Taelor Kellum recorded four kills in the set and Holly Carlton registered three.
- The third set was a back-and-forth battle, but Florida took the 15-12 lead into the media timeout. Mississippi State brought it to within one point at 20-19, but Holly Carlton and Paige Hammons both notched kills to bring the lead to 22-19. Florida closed out the set and the match on a kill from Hammons.
- UF posted a .263 hit clip during the third set, notching 16 kills along the way. Paige Hammons recorded seven kills in the final frame and Holly Carlton posted five.
