Gators Tied for Eighth after Day One of Northrop Grumman

Taylor Tomlinson and Carlotta Ricolfi sit inside top 15
PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- After winning the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge last year, senior Taylor Tomlinson started out hot at the 2018 tournament.
At one point in her opening round, Tomlinson had a share of the lead at 2-under par. She would eventually turn in a first round score of 71 (E) and sit four back of the leader, Olivia Mehaffey of Arizona State.
Carlotta Ricolfi is just one stroke behind Tomlinson as a team-best five birdies on day one helped her card a 72 (+1). She in a tied for 14th heading into round two.
In a field that includes 12 ranked teams, the Gators sit in eighth at 12-over par which is one stroke better than No. 2 Duke and No. 25 Washington.
Sierra Brooks (+4) who is in a tie for 40th and Marta Perez (+7) and tied for 64th rounded out the counted scores for Florida.
The tournament in Palos Verdes, Calif. continues tomorrow with the second round of play beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET).
Coach's Take:
On today's round -- "This golf course really requires your full attention, you have to play smart. We had some really good stretches today. Where we faltered was not playing smart on the tough holes, making mistakes that cost us big numbers."
On the event and field -- "We talk a lot about making sure we are learning each time we compete and it's why we love to play in this event. The field is great and from the golf course you really learn about your game and what areas need attention. I think each day we will get more comfortable and I'm looking forward to see our improvement." -Coach Emily Glaser
