AJ McFarland climbed three spots in the national rankings with his new school record
BATON ROUGE, La. – Redshirt junior AJ McFarland broke his own weight throw school record for a second consecutive outing, as Florida's throwers competed Friday evening at LSU's Bayou Bengal Invitational.
McFarland opened his six-throw series with a mark of 21.76 meters (71 feet, 4.75 inches), breaking the school record he set two weeks ago by two centimeters. The DeLand, Fla., native eclipsed the 21.70-meter mark again on his second attempt, then shattered the record he set earlier with a throw of 21.89 meters (71 feet, 10 inches) on his final attempt.
McFarland's mark ranks tied for seventh nationally.
Senior Lloydricia Cameron, the fourth-ranked shot put thrower in the nation, did not reach her season best but won the competition by well over two meters.
In the women's weight throw, sophomore Amara Wiggan topped her personal record by 11 centimeters, finishing fourth overall with a top mark of 18.09 meters (59 feet, 4.25 inches).
Florida returns to action next Friday and Saturday at Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational and the Iowa State Classic. The majority of the Gators will travel to Clemson, while a select group of distance runners will compete at the Iowa State Classic.
