Wednesday night's game will be the third meeting between the Gators and Tigers, with Florida maintaining a 2-0 edge in the series. Last season, a career-high seven points from Sammi Burgess powered the Gators to a 13-6 victory at Towson.
The No. 14 Tigers are the seventh of nine IWLCA top-25 opponents for the Gators this season. UF has already challenged No. 17 Colorado, No. 1 Maryland, No. 23 Loyola, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 8 Syracuse, and No. 10 Navy; with No. 14 Towson, No. 24 Georgetown, and No. 23 Denver still left on the schedule. The Gators are 4-2 against ranked opponents in 2018.
Towson most recently faced No. 1 Stony Brook, ultimately dropping a 13-8 decision after the Tigers and Seawolves were tied at 7-7 with 13 minutes left to play.
Head Coach Amanda O'Leary:
"Focusing on all the little things will be crucial for us to beat a very talented Towson team. We have had some slow starts so far this season and are still looking to put together a complete 60-minute game. They (Towson) are disruptive on the defensive end of the field, so we have to make sure to value ball control. We're excited for the opportunity to play in a night game at home in front of our fans."
Chasing History
Amanda O'Leary has the ability to etch her name in the record books on Wednesday night, with the chance to become just the fifth DI women's lacrosse coach to win 300 career games. O'Leary is currently 299-99 (.751) in 23 years as a head coach.
Now in her ninth season at the helm of Florida's lacrosse program, O'Leary has the ability to join Navy's Cindy Timchal (497), Princeton's Chris Sailer (390), North Carolina's Jenny Levy (318), and Virginia's Julie Myers (307) as the only coaches to accomplish that feat.
Under O'Leary's tutelage, the Gators have posted a 137-34 record since the inception of the program in 2010. Florida has 127 total wins since 2011, the second most of any DI institution.
Night Games
In the nine-year history of Florida lacrosse, the Gators are a dominant 33-3 (.917) in night games (starting after 6 p.m.). The last time UF dropped a night contest was March 17, 2015 against Stony Brook.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson has played three games against ranked opponents so far this season, defeating No. 4 Penn State in its season opener, and falling short against No. 16 Loyola and No. 1 Stony Brook. The Tigers have one of the top defenses in the NCAA, ranking seventh in caused turnovers per game (11.71) and 12th in scoring defense (9.29).
