Jacksonville Downs Gators 8-4 in Midweek Action

WHAT HAPPENED: Jacksonville ended the Gators' win streak on Tuesday night with an 8-4 win at McKethan Stadium.

The visitors scored in four straight innings and Florida could never catch them, stranding 13 runners on base in the game.

Wil Dalton opened the scoring with his team-leading 13th home run of the season, a solo shot over the bleachers in left field.

The Gators added a run in the third after loading the bases with three walks in the inning. Jonathan India's grounder scored Bell from third to make it 2-0.

Jacksonville rallied in the fourth to take a one-run lead on four singles. A groundout to first from Jacob Southern brought in a run to give the Dolphins a 3-2 lead.

Florida tied the game in the bottom of the inning. JJ Schwarz doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a RBI grounder from Blake Reese to make it 3-3.

The Dolphins retook the lead in the top of the fifth. Evan Fernandez hit a solo home run to left and a RBI single from John Cassala gave JU a 5-3 lead.

Florida got a run back in the bottom of the inning on India's RBI double but JU once again extended the lead in the sixth, plating a run on a called balk with a runner at third base.

The Dolphins pushed the lead to four in the seventh inning on a two-run shot from John Cassala to make it 8-4.

Florida couldn't muster anything in the late innings and failed to capitalize when they had opportunities, stranding 13 runners on base in the game.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Jonathan India – India went 2-for-4 on the night with a pair of RBI, extending his hitting streak to 24 games, tying Bobby Forbes (did it in 1948) for the third-longest streak in school history. India trails only Brad Wilkerson (26 games, 1996-97) and Tim Olson (29 games, 2000).

FROM THE COACH: Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan on tonight's game: "We just couldn't come up with the big hit, we left 13 on base. It's hard to win games like that. We just pitched okay, a couple positives I thought Hunter [McMullen] threw the ball well in the eighth and Churchill pitched well in the ninth. In between they put some good swings on some balls. We got Langworthy back on the mound, he hadn't pitched in a while, then we got Horvath on the mound because he hadn't pitched in a while. It was just one of those night."

How did the Thursday series opener at Kentucky change things? "It changed some things. We didn't want to use Jordan Butler, we didn't want to use Michael Byrne unless we absolutely had to. We didn't want to use Tommy Mace. It changed things a little bit, but that's no excuse. We've just got to be better."

UP NEXT: Florida travels to Lexington, Ky., this weekend for a three-game series at No. 9 Kentucky beginning Thursday night at 7 p.m. on SEC Network.

Game two is Friday at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network and the series finale is Saturday at 1 p.m. (online stream only). All three games will stream live on SEC Network+ and broadcast via the Gators IMG Sports Network.
