
Singer Named Baseball America National Player of the Year

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Junior right-hander Brady Singer has been named the 2018 Baseball America National Player of the Year, the publication announced on Thursday.
Singer is the first pitcher to win the award since Trevor Bauer (UCLA, 2011) and just the second Florida player to be named the BA Player of the Year, following Mike Zunino's selection in 2012.
Earlier this season, Singer was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year after leading the league with 10 wins and a 2.25 earned run average. He limited opposing hitters to a .186 batting average against, second best in the SEC.
In addition, junior right-hander Michael Byrne and third baseman Jonathan India joined Singer on the Baseball America All-America First Team.
Byrne has a 1.99 earned run average with 13 saves in 29 appearances. Earlier this year, he broke the UF record for career saves, which now stands at 32.
India leads the Gators with a .362 average and 17 home runs on the season and has 42 RBI. He was named the SEC Player of the Year after leading the league in slugging percentage (.723) and on-base percentage (.502).
