Florida also placed four on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team
For the eighth consecutive year, University of Florida women's tennis is an All-Academic Team. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its list of 2018 All-Academic Teams today.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, or CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).
In May, Florida women's tennis was one of four UF teams recognized by the NCAA for Academic Progress Rate (APR). Florida's 1000 rate puts it among the nation's top 10 percent of NCAA women's tennis programs.
Additionally, four Florida players – Anna Danilina, McCartney Kessler, Josie Kuhlman and Peggy Porter - earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades, the student-athlete must uphold a grade point average of at least 3.50 or above (on a 4.00 scale) as well as earn a varsity letter and been enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters.
Kuhlman earned Google Cloud Academic All-America first-team honors and was named the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of 2018 for women's tennis. She joins Lolita Frangulyan (2005-08) as the program's only two to earn four ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Danilina, Kuhlman and Porter graduated cum laude in May.
This is the 13th Florida team coached by Roland Thornqvist to earn ITA All-Academic Team honors. Thornqvist has now coached 22 athletes to 45 ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
